The “D” is silent

     I went to see Django on the Friday of the week it was released and really enjoyed it.  I don’t often get to see a film about a black man who isn’t emasculated, so there wasn’t much it needed to do to lose me to be honest.  I also enjoyed the fact that his mission was an honorable one, to save his wife.  No settin’ it off, no shuckin’ & jiving, no bullshit.  Granted, I don’t have an issue with films displaying that content, it’s just that most films with a black lead have that content.
     I started this picture a few times, and just couldn’t get what I was looking for at first.  I nearly abandoned it when I figured out how I was going to do it.  All the illustration was done in Sketchbook Pro, and the placement of the figures were done separately in Photoshop.  The music in the video is from the soundtrack, and the track listings are as follow;

Byplay Cogitate

     I did this one before, and decided to redo it, along with another piece.  I used the back cover of Teedra Moses’ Luxurious Undergrind Compilation album from 2011.  I actually finished the piece and made a video to accompany it & everything.  I still have it, but decided to go into a different direction.  I really like this more than the other, a real improvement in my opinion.  The jewelry in this piece was inspired by pieces on Afriquelachic.com, specifically this one, Ghanian Blook Tribal African Necklace, http://www.afriquelachic.com/Products/Mens-African-Jewelry/2607/Ghanian-Blook-Tribal-African-Necklace/, and this one, Gye Nyame Adinkra Beaded Necklace, http://www.afriquelachic.com/Products/Mens-African-Jewelry/2592/Gye-Nyame-Adinkra-Beaded-Necklace/.  The first track in the video is "One In A Million" from Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth off the Poetic Justice OST.  The second is "Come Close" from Common off his Electric Circus album.
